About Us & Louis Lake Area

Louis Lake is a natural high mountain lake at 8,560 feet above sea level.  The lake is approximately 1 mile east to west and 3/4 mile wide with a maximum depth of about 60 feet. The Game and Fish Department and the Forest Service completed a new boat launch in the late fall of 1999.

Louis Lake has been a favorite vacation spot for our family since we first started coming here in 1978.  Since re-opening and renovating in 1996 the Louis Lake area is becoming a memorable vacation spot with repeat visitors. Louis Lake Lodge adopted the nickname "Grandpa's Woods" from our daughter who wrote a back-to-school story about what she did during the summer. The story was about how grandpa took her fishing at "Grandpa's Woods". The nickname stuck and Louis Lake has become a very popular place for family reunions.
